Eke Kriek
The work of Eke Kriek is a combination of photography, video and animation. She seeks to specific moments that are out of the ordinary: when someone loses his attention, dances a fraction of a second off the beat, picks up the rhythm again and continues dancing." She searches for tiny moments, however small and insignificant, that are able to change the whole image.
In 2009 Kriek stayed in Tokyo for three months where she searched for these specific moments in relation to urbanisation: what makes the city a city? With her sharp analysis of the environment and her proper handling technique she knows how to communicate with the right image: from the purest form of film and photography to a complete manipulation of the image.
Eke Kriek (1981) studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. In 2008, Kriek participated in the international group show Empty Paradise in the Hague Museum of Photography. In 2009 her film 'Tokyo Blue Screen ', filmed during her stay in Tokyo, was chosen for ’10 years The One Minutes’ the Kunsthal in Amersfoort. The first solo exhibition was in May 2010 in C3 Gallery, titled Sumimasen.
